Standalone music streamer/player

Looking for some advice please for son's room. A few years ago it would have been easy- I'd have bought a sonos speaker and my son could have borrowed a CR100 controller from the house stash of them.
Since Sonos notified me they were bricking the CR100's I've had to block Sonos updates/access via my home router. This also stops me adding new kit to the system and is the reason I've gone with Hi-rez players from other suppliers when adding to the home system.
I'm now looking for a reasonably priced all-in-one streaming unit to play tracks from the home NAS that, ideally, won't need a 'phone or tablet to access.
Does anyone have any recommendations please? I've already discounted alexa/google as they are aimed at streaming paid-for services rather than from a domestic NAS and the sound is poor on every Alexa I've owned (three different types up to and including the Show)
