After ~11 years with my Sony 40", I fancy upgrading to 55" OLED, and an LG (as everyone raves about them).
Will be primarily used for films and TV shows streamed from my NAS - either through the PS3 (as today) or direct to the TV (if it can do that)
Sound will go through my Sony cinema amp.

Didn't want to spend a huge amount more than a grand, so these two are contenders: OLED55B9PLA (~£1,100) and OLED55C9MLB / OLED55C9PLA (~£1,400) - hoping there might be some black Friday/pre-Xmas deals.

Looks like the only real difference that £300 gets me is an a9 processor vs an a7 processor. What real-world benefit would that give me?
Could it (for example) transcode 1080P or 2160P files on the fly if streamed from the NAS to Plex on the TV?

Any other things to consider?
Ta!

I cannot help much (sorry), but I was looking at LG's yesterday. The B models seem to be budget, C models mid range. Think the e and Z models are top of the range.

Just interested as to where is the right place to look for deals for Black Friday? From what I have seen so far, prices are pretty much identical across Richer Sounds, John Lewis, Currys etc. Would be good to find a special deal as the model I am looking at is £2,500 at the moment, already allegedly discounted from £3,000+.

On a percentage basis, a few % equals a worthwhile saving on something that price. Let us know how you get on.

Keep an eye on the sales coming up. I got an LG E7 for less than the price of the equivalent sized B/C7 from Peter Tyson a couple of years back.

B = 2018 model tech

c9 is the one to get if you run your own speakers sound bar etc.

£1399 was a £2.5 k TV a few months back

I thought the ‘B’ was model range, ‘8’ the model year.

^ Correct. 8 is 2018, 9 is 2019 model. B is base, C is mid, E etc are posh frames

Just to bring a sense of closure (because we all like that), yesterday I bought a LG OLED55C9PLA from Richer Sounds - at the current standard price of £1400, but they have said they will refund any difference if it can be found cheaper until the 3rd Dec.

Sadly haven't had a huge amount of time yet to play with it - and no time to try out different calibration settings - but running some of my fave SciFi movies through it already looks very impressive (once i'd switched off the TruMotion/soap-opera setting).

Its on the stand at the moment, but plan on wall mounting with a fixed position mount (as wont need to adjust the angle of the dangle)
Any recommendations for a slim and sturdy wall mount? They seem pretty cheap, starting at about £15... anything to consider?

We bought a dedicated TV stand/cabinet. It is the right height for eye level when on the settee. All the kit (Apple TV, 4k Blu ray, AV amp) sits in it out the way and all cables hidden. We got ours form here. Careful with the ventilation though as per kit recommendations.

We had to re arrange the room a tad but it saved drilling the walls, chasing cables in or fitting trunking etc. Kept the HDMI cable runs short meaning cheap correctly specced cables.

Edit. The settings can make a huge difference (outside a professional calibration). Use the web, many settings are pointless for my money but I have an older panel so no good to compare with mine but all processing for motion etc. best OFF. OLED settings can have a lot of play, as will the Gamut etc. Quite a lot too get to grips with.

I set mine up in the ISF settings, and I think on mine each HDMI input holds its own setting. You may need to do it a few times.

I've got a LG 55 B7 and I'm using this wall mount - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01AYB3MD6/ref...

It's very sturdy, offers all the movement you need and was pretty simple to install.
