Ceiling surround sound speakers (Worthwhile addition?)

My uncle had a very similar setup in his house in Arizona. 5 round ceiling speakers.
The surrounds worked well. The mains, particularly the centre, did suffer from the fact the tweeter is aimed streight downwards. Slightly muffled dialoge.
I replaced the front three with these:

Though I used the smaller quare ones:
They hook up to the 12v trigger on your AV amp (used for projector screens etc) and come down when you turn it on (motorised, very smooth movement). Very cool, much like me fitting them:
:-) But seriously, they improved the sound massively.
You'll need a subwoofer for sure, btw.

Those drop down ones look fantastic, can you remember where they came from?
With regards to the ceiling can they just be mounted straight in to plaster board or is reinforcement needed? (At first glance I thought you was attacking the ceiling with a bread knife
)
I'll use the existing sub that came with the Onkyo i think. It's ample enough for what we use it for...

The big square ones (8") are expensive:

No structual support needed - they are designed specifically to push into a plasterboard hole and have the relevant fixings in the kits. Just make sure you have the depth needed, and make sure you are not going to run into a wooden beam. That might well have actually been a bread knife! - can't remember. As you are having the ceiling done it should be easy enough for you to install them.
You'll need , in addition to the speaker wires, to run another twin wire (can be thin cheap stuff) to the speakers to power them up and down.

They can go straight into the ceiling and should be fine, however if you have rooms above you should fit something like hoodys to them.
