TV stopped working

Yesterday, after the phones in the house suddenly stopped working, and after trying to find out what the problem was (being careful not to damage the phone line and wires and the TV that's next to it), I discovered that the TV now wouldn't work now. It will power up and light up, but nothing else happens that shows it is working. The TV is a cheap model (Poloroid) and is a few years old, but it's strange this has happened immediately after the phone stopped working. Can't imagine it being the fuse box.

All the phone will do is ring in and out and go straight to answer phone.

Anyone have any ideas?.

Was it stormy at the time? A few years ago my daughters LG TV was damaged due to lightning.

As far as I can recall it wasn't lighting at the time, haven't had any in ages.
