Speakers keep cuttting out

Been playing The Fall recently and like to have it really loud. My music is in my office which is away from the house and only the cattle and sheep can complain. But my speakers keep dropping out at high volume but with the volume knob on the amp having a lot further to go. I have a Cyprus 8 (?) amp and Proac Tablette 2000 Signature speakers. I assume it's the speakers that aren't up to handling the volume?

How far round is the volume control?

It sounds like the amp is clipping (running out of puff) and going into a protection mode to avoid destroying the speakers.

You may though want to check the connections for any stray bits of wire causing a short.
