Now that BT are dropping the Remote record app (Grrrr), I recon it won't be all that long till YouView disappears completely?
I've currently got a DTR-T4000 Ultra HD box and I'm thinking about flogging it while they're still worth some money before everyone realises it's an end of life service.

What alternatives are there?
I'm guessing something Humax with Freeview Play as opposed to YouView? I really want 5.1 support with NetFlix though...which the DRT-T4000 has, my older DTR-T2000 didn't.

Do you have a source for that? I can't find any mention of the app being discontinued and its still working OK for me.

I don't see YouView going, it is popular and tied in with BT and Plusnet.

Perhaps there just isn't enough uptake of the app to make it worth BT updating?

I normally use the BT TV app which as well as accessing BTTV and your subscribed content if you have any also gives a full TV listing and remote record, that doesn't appear to be under threat of closing AFAICT

However I also have the Youview branded app that works just as a TV guide and remote record app and that is giving a message on startup saying the app is being discontinued.

AFAIK, the BT app continues.

It's the Youview app that's being dropped.

In other words, only BT TV subscribers will be able to use an app.

From Youview:
We've put together some information to clarify a bit more with what's happening regarding YouView and the mobile app.
We are not pulling support for non-subscription YouView devices. These boxes will continue to function and receive software updates for features and improvements (as long as they are connected to the internet) as well as get access to new apps as and when they are on-boarded. Whilst we are no longer pushing out features for the T1000 devices, these are still in use and retain their core functionality of watching and recording content and using the available players and apps.
We are not removing the YouView community forum as this is a key resource for users looking for help and for us to collect feedback. We greatly appreciate and value the input and time that users have given us over the years and we hope this continues in the future.
YouView is transitioning from a B2C (business to customer) model to a B2B2C (Business to business to customer) model so our focus has moved to delivering and supporting the needs of our business partners; BT, TalkTalk, Humax and Sony. Since we are moving away from 'direct to consumer' products, we have made the decision to remove the YouView app and move resources around to better suit this new model. We have quite a lot going on behind the scenes at the moment here at YouView and we are excited to share more about these over the course of the 2020.
We will be updating the comms linked in the original post to clarify that only BT subscribers will be able to use the BT TV app instead of the YouView app. TalkTalk have released some information regarding their TalkTalk Planner App.

As you have probably noticed, there has been a fairly major software update.

Plus a full NowTV app with Entertainment and Sport as well as Movies.

Good news if you've got a BT box but just use it for Freeview.

BT have decided to allow all users with a BT branded box to use the BTTV app to remote record even if you don't subscribe to BTTV

https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2020/03/bt-o...

Edit: just read the article properly and it looks like the BT app will actually work with any Youview box for remote record. The downside is BT will undoubtedly use the opportunity to sell their subscription but at least you can still set up recordings.
