We can watch live TV but the recordings and FF/R don't work, message says hard disk failure. Mini box can't read it either.
Tried the on/off approach, tried reconnecting to the BB router. Any other options before hitting with a hammer?

Have you phoned Sky; normally the Q box is rented so they will replace if faulty?

Might be time for a hard disk reset and, if that fails, a factory reset.

Unfortunately, I think you'll lose all your recordings and any series links if you do this.

Tried the settings reset, wife & son's recordings have the HD about 90% full, there'll be tears.....
On the Sky web site they are saying they'll only deal with the vulnerable and key workers due to Covid19....
(Bet they will respond if I close the Direct Debit).

Looks like a HD reset at the minute although on Skye Community here seems to be a few with the same problem today. Alien interference??

It's always been the same, we've had various boxes over the years and she's always recorded more than she can watch......

Have you deleted the deleted stuff?

Sounds daft, but even though you might delete something you've watched, it still sits there taking up space. You can 'delete' them by going to:
Recordings
Manage
Deleted
Then select each programme and select "Delete forever".

But when you do this give it a second or 2 to respond to your remote. Otherwise you'll accidently undelete some of them.

I do go into there and delete stuff from time to time. Don't think I can access it now though. Will try.
Just tried, nope, get to manage and then it's just "Please wait" and the twirly thing.
Lost the satellite signal too now.......

The items in the deleted folder, while taking up space, are there to be deleted as and when space is needed. They don't need deleted regularly, the box will do all that.

It's been a while, but Press Home, scroll down to Settings, then press 0,0,1, select. This should take you into the Engineer menu. In here you can try a settings reset. If that doesn't work you'll need to try a Hard Drive reset. If that doesn't work it's on the phone to Sky to book a Service call.

I’ve found I have issues with sky Q if I let it get full. Once I cleared the hard drive the issues went away. I now do regular house keeping.

As I also understood, but was told that may not be the case, so a manual cleanup was suggested.

Unfortunately we can't get into any recordings, watched or unwatched...
Did the 001 bit earlier, did a reset but no improvement. Next is a hard drive reset which deletes all recordings then a factory reset.
Going to switch everything off tonight and restart in the morning before any further resetting.
Switched the BB off earlier only to discover wife had gone to bed and was watching TV on the firestick. Or was....

You already have 'lost' your recordings in that you can't play them back or view them. It's very unlikely a situation will come round where you will do so.

I see plenty of failed Q boxes, some straight out the box fail, not as reliable as the older HD boxes.

Hard drive reset, back up and running again thanks. All recordings lost, wife now searching for missing programmes.
Took a while to get the mini box to connect but that's going too now.
When I've looked at the sky Community forum it's interesting to see how many people seem to be having similar problems....

There are around 5.5 million Sky Q boxes out there we were told late last year, that could be 6 million by now. It stands to reason that even with a 1% failure rate that's still 60,000 boxes going wrong, some of whom will no doubt complain about it. While hard Drives have become far more reliable than they used to be they're still finicky, precision instruments that can and do go wrong.

This is quite interesting if you're into Technology and it's reliability. https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-stats-fo...
