So I am just about to press the button on the Sony HTZF9 sound bar with the wireless rear speakers, which comes in around £750.00

https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/sound-bars/ht-z...

I looked at the ££ and though that's a lot of cash, would I be better of getting a true 5.1 system, if there is any wireless ones?

I previously had a 5.1 but when we moved I never set the rear speakers up (due to the faff with the wires) also it didn't look great so sold it.

Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with the HTZF9.

In summary I love the 5.1 (when I had it set up) so looking for that, but don't want a big ugly thing in the room,

You could always go for ceiling fx speakers at the rear if aesthetics are critical.

Looking around not sure where all the traditional 5.1 systems have gone.

I’ve narrowed it down to two the Sony one above and this one

Can anyone shed some light on which would be best

I have the system with the rear speakers and it’s actually very good. Just remember you’ll need power outlets for both satellite speakers.

I have the 2.1 version of that soundbar.

I bought another Sony XF9005 TV for the bedroom and the guy said I could have it. I didn't realise until later it was £500.
In all honesty I presumed it was £250 or something.

They are all top end and flabby bass, with no real body to the sound. But then with such small mid range drivers and a cheap sub it is to be expected.

I have had older Yamaha YSP30D, YSP800 etc. and they are in a different ball park sound wise.
You can pick them up for £30 on Gumtree, buy a rel sub used for £100 and job done.

Or if you want modern consider the B&O stage, that is impressive and also good with music.

The LG one that uses Meridian technology is nice too. Can't remember the model number.

Personally I’d stick with 5.1 if you like that. When you say big ugly thing, do you mean an AV amp?

Buy an Arcam Movie Solo used and 5 Kef eggs and a sub. Probably cost less than £650 and sound amazing in comparison.

I made my comment because I thought he was talking about the rear speakers but maybe it is the amp. Easily hidden though.

Interesting, it’s such a mind field when looking at this all.

I meant speakers, (previously had two tall speakers either side) but looking into it a bit more it looks like they do smaller speakers now days
