Spotify Premium doesn't work??!

Tried Spotify a couple of years ago (through Sonos) and got so fed up with the user interface I gave up. Thought I'd give it a go again now and signed up for the free trial to get away from Shuffle and have the ability to pick individual tracks/artists as advertised but having given them all my bank details so they can charge me in 3 months time and receiving an acknowledgement on my phone that I am now on Premium there's still no apparent way to get off Shuffle off??! Googling it reveals a load of complaints about this and some suggestions as to how to disable Shuffle but nothing anyone is talking about (interlocked direction arrows on the screen etc) relates to anything I can see on my phone. Tried to sort it on my MacBook but it hasn't even worked out that I'm on Premium yet. Beginning to remember why I gave up the first time.
