Dodgy firestick blows telly?

Can't see it myself but my B-i-L gave a dodgy firestick to F-i-L and for a few days he watched loads of film channels, sports etc etc

TV then suddenly stops working, local shop that supplied it says its dead.

F-i-L is convinced its the firestick but can;t see how?

I had a chromecast that took out an amp. When I looked inside the connector I saw there was damage and the pins were short circuiting.
