I purchased a sony TV back in may 2016 and in recent months it's developing white blobs on the screen.

I recall when purchasing that the TV came with a 5 year guarantee but the e receipt doesn't say this. Does anyone have experience of claiming under the 5 year guarantee with Currys. I'm trying to understand what kind of response I'm may expect from Currys when I call them regards it.

I claimed a year or so ago, very easy. Ring up KnowHow (their support arm) and give them the TV serial number, they'll have the purchase on record

I guess you will need to speak to them to find out!

Some yrs back a friend of mine was in a similar position. He took the TV back to the shop as it developed a fault just before the five yrs was up and they gave him a store credit.

Because the price of TV's had come down so much in that period he wandered round the shop doing a bit of a supermarket sweep. "I'll have that TV, this laptop, that camera" etc

He was a very happy chap that day..

As above, but don’t ask if you have warranty, tell them you do absolutely remember but can’t find the receipt and when can I expect a service visit?

This was going to be my approach but in the event they wriggle I'm wondering what angle they might play ?

A bit of googling has found mixed responses.

Not sure about your specific example with a TV, but I had a freezer from them that died, and they were fine claiming under the extended warranty. This was years ago, though, and I did have the paperwork.

Check your email history at the time? Did you register it or anything?

No registration required, receipt was enough which leaves me a little wobbly possibly.

Let's see what they say tomorrow.

Here's an archive.org snapshot of the Sony TV page on Curry's website in May 2016 which shows numerous (but not all) being sold with a 5yr guarantee:

http://web.archive.org/web/20160502172804/http://w...

If yours is listed, a printout of that page (or your particular product page if also archived) ought to be enough.

Thanks for the link, appreciated. It does indeed show the TV I purchased although the price is a little higher. However if you scroll through to just after I purchased it shows the correct price and the 5 year details.
