Speaker crackle

Have a Kenwood Ka-7050R integrated amp driving 4 Mission m34i speakers, it’s used for TV, CD and Tuner.
Most of the time the volume is pretty low but when ever it’s turned up there is terrible crackling from the speakers as the volume dial is turned, it’s only when the dial is turned, it’s fine as soon as the dial is set and left!
Any ideas what it could be?
