Projectors 1080p or psuedo 4k?
Discussion
Hi all
My mitsubishi Hc5000 projector has indeed died (following my thread a few months back) as parts are impossible to get hold of.
I need a new one and will probably go for a £500 1080p 3D replacement but wonder if something like an Optoma UHD300X would be worth the extra 400 quid.
Something to add in to the equation is my amp is 1080p only and even my HDMI cable which is channeled into the wall is unlikely to be 4k compatible as I installed it all in 2014. I guess I'd have to pug and unplug a lead each time I wanted to watch a 4k movie.
What are people's thoughts?

I've currently got a BenQ 1080p projector and have debated a few times about upgrading to 4k. I'm not sure I would get the benefit just yet as I don't have a lot of 4K material to throw at it. I think if I was going to commit to 4k, I'd want a proper all signing all dancing one, rather than psuedo.
Its an expensive hobby
I decided to spend the money upgrading my speakers, and fitting a proper screen rather than projecting onto a wall, and what a difference that made. 1080p picture quality for me is still perfectly adequate.

Don't know anything about projectors but how long is the cable run? I assume it is not in trunking that can be removed easily?
A correctly certified HDMI "Premium High Speed" lead for 4K are none to great for length past a certain distance, 8mtrs??
New spec cables (Ultra High Speed) are going to be even shorter for passive cables. Rumoured 3 mtrs?
Other cables are available including active.

Pseudo 4k has got a lot better in the current years, so much so I will now recommend it as a worthy solution.
The Sony 4k’s are stunning (but then I have one)
The optoma’s and the little new JVC are good 1080’s and Pseudo 4k’s but with the price drop you have to be a little more careful with the lens shift and throw distances as they can be restrictive.

Which new JVC out of interest to you mean? The Sony 4k’s are stunning (but then I have one)

I'm looking for a projector, probably pseudo 4k. I know Optoma do lots of DLP ones, not considered a JVC however.

It’s the new LX-UH1 4k DLP, it has an RRP of £2500 and an incredible lens-shift range.I'm looking for a projector, probably pseudo 4k. I know Optoma do lots of DLP ones, not considered a JVC however.
I have a spec sheet somewhere if you PM me.

No problem, just check my pricing and I can’t get close, electronic margin is always tight.
Alternatively your looking at Optoma UHP40, 51 and 52 for Pseudo 4k ranging from £1199 to £1599 at RRP.
Or the little HZ40 which is a 1080p Laser (far better blacks, brightness and contrast ratios) for £1299 RRP.
We just need to check throw distances and Lens shift ranges for your room.

Happy to help out if needed.

Thanks Vex, grateful for your full reply above. I do like the look of the Optoma 52, whilst the 51 also seems to tick all the boxes for wjat I need it doesn't come in white (as far as I can see).
Looking to project onto a 120inch screen and projector to screen distance can be 3.5 to 4.5m, there's a bit of variance as I dont have a current PJ so bracket can be sited within this range.
I did pop all my figures in a distance calculator a while back and the Optomas seemed to be ok.
What price would you be able to do a 52 for?
