What s the obsession with putting amps on the floor?
Discussion
I mean yes, some of the massive 250kg monoblocks I can understand, but looking at pictures or videos of high end listening shows or events, I am bemused by the amount of kit on the floor.
If they are trying to sell stands for thousands, wouldn t they show them as well? I just don’t get it.

I've been to- and have run rooms at- Hi-Fi shows and exhibitions. Those small rooms get uncomfortably stuffy quite quickly, and often the windows either can't be opened, or the exhibitors are told to keep them closed for noise regs or something. (On the face of it that makes no sense. A country hotel is hardly going to be a noise problem for the farm next door. I can imagine though hearing the music from rooms to the sides plus above and below isn't ideal.
Anyway, the floor is where the coolest air is in the room.

But if the amp is on the floor it's restricting the cooling to the bottom surface & the airflow past the heatsinks. There's no meaningful difference between the air temperature on the floor & 12" off the desk.
They don't just cool from the bottom, but I take your point. Still doen't stop them being put on the floor though. Forums | Home Cinema & Hi-Fi | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
