...and if so does anybody have a suggestion?

Plasma or LCD - either is a consideration.

I see there are lots of 42", 46" etc for about £700 but if I want 50"+ should I be spending over £1k?

There are loads for under £1000, both LCD and Plasma. Have a browse at some of the 'what TV?' threads in this forum as they will give you a good idea.

Cheers gbbird - but I was kinda trawling for the latest news/opinion - perhaps somebody has heard of a very good TV that has only just dropped below the £1k mark etc.

The PH search isn't working (it currently uses the google search facility) so its not that great when you search for (say) "50 inch TV".

By all accounts one of (if not the) best at this price range is the Panasonic VIERA TXP50G10B

I think the V10 version is even better but i'm not sure on the price for that one.

I have this one.

It's great, I love it. Although you definitely notice poor quality on SD sometimes, however that is probably because I sit like a child about 5 feet away from it.

I presume by mine you mean you mean the G10 Tiggsy?

The V10 seems to retail at about £1,300 on average which puts it out of my requirements at the moment.

Have a ganders at the LG PS8000. Lovely looking things, and THX certified to boot smile

The Panny 50G10 is not quite the best Panny now, as there are the newer V10s, but these may be slightly over the £1k mark

Yes G10.....no need to spend an extra £400+ on a V10....put that into some speakers!
