Is it just a pipe dream or is it possible to ship a car to America and ship it back for a reasonable price? has anyone done it before, can recommend a shipping company or think this is a stupid idea? haha

Also how long does it take to setup the whole process etc, any help would be appreciated.

Hi Martin
It sound totally impractical to me; you could be looking at a grand each way plus all sorts of insurance. Why don't you just hire a Corvette? Much cheaper!!!

Cheers Chas

May be useful to contact ThatPhilBrettguy who shipped his GT40 to the Bahamas for speed week. I'm sure he could give some useful info.

My brother, Barry, and a load of his mates shipped their Westfields to the US for a cross-country three-week tour about 4-5 years back. Started in Texas, finished in LA I think.... They had a blast.

Certainly do-able. I looked at the costs and feasability of that a few years agon and it wasn't outlandish, obviously the longer you intend to be there the better it looks. So if you're going for two weeks then as the first response said just hire something nice but if you're getting into a month or so then it makes more sense.

I can't remember who I got quotes from but these guys ring a bell.

One thing i would say is cars don't like shipping containers with no ventilation (speaking from experience) Damp is a big problem condensation will form inside and coat the whole car. and it might not even start right away at the other end. I would soak the whole engine and electrical in wd-40 at the very least and look in to prep work to ship it.

No probs on emmissions, you can take a car you own in for one year before you have to comply with the regs.

Just dug out a quote for shipping a car to the US as this is something I have been looking at, £3,000 return all insurance and tax included in that price.

A few of us fancied doing a few track days over there in the old girl for a boys week away.
