Another Petrol Head day out/meet up - for a good cause too
Discussion
There's just a few places left to make the full 500 car list for the Caring With Cars event to be held at the Children's Hospice at Wraxhall, west of Bristol on Sunday 20th May. I've not been before but lots of posts saying what a good event it is, all for charity too.
A super collection of cars will be there, with three interesting talks being put on and it's free for those who register... and on top of that, some unbelievable raffle prizes. Well done V8S for obtaining such great prizes.

Be great to see a few more TVRs there.

Hi,
Last year we were severely affected by a veritable monsoon that came sweeping in the evening before and continued for part of the morning, totally waterlogging the areas we had scouted and checked for drainage on a number of occasions, even flooding the road outside. We had watched the forecasts for about 7 days before and they were saying some light rain if any. I was absolutely soaked through by 8am that morning and we were close to cancelling.
We did our best to get the event together, using whatever areas we could. This included the hospice's own field, which was draining fairly well but unfortunately was somewhat separate from the school. This field was never part of our plan for the event - instead, all cars should have been parked together near the house.
It was unlucky we had such horrible weather last year, and have a good plan in place for 2012 to cope better.

That's fair enough and as I said overall it was a good day. I just felt as though if you had a lesser car than a £100k plus supercar or arrived about 2 hours early, that you were a bit of a second class citizen.
I realise that people want to see the flash metal and that a regular Tuscan or some of the other regular ph'ers cars are not really special (except to the owner).
TBh apart from the muddy field thing the organisation was great and I did make that comment at the time.
I am still in two minds as to whether or not to attend this year. (If I don't attend I will probably still make a donation to the hospice)

I just want to clarify that Caring with Cars is not about supercar worship. The ethos for both me personally and for the event is variety and friendliness - just how a meet of enthusiasts should be. I spend a lot of time inviting people with unusual stuff that an enthusiast might turn their head to see. I even tried to get in touch with that bloke who put a lawnmower engine on the back of a mobility scooter, and also some lawnmower racers. No luck on both counts. We do have a showcase (or highlight) area that is drawn from all the cars that are attending, and every car starts off with an equal chance. Last year we purposefully put a Trabant, an RS1600, a 205 GTi, an older Marcos, a Quattro and a Escort rally car in to the showcase amongst others that don't cost hundreds of thousands of pounds to buy.
We just had so many great cars attending last year that it appeared, as we used as much space as we could, that expensive stuff was favoured. The showcase had to be mixed with all the other cars, so wasn't as defined. Having said that, some cars we definitely do need to show off. We could never put a Bugatti worth £1.7 million or a F1 GTR worth about £2 million out the back somewhere, though a genuine Bugatti Type 35 did attend (probably worth half a million?) and that parked around the back fairly out of sight.
This year's showcase will have a £5k sandrail buggy in it, for instance, and there's an LS7 T350 that I have my eye on.
We're trying not to be seen as 'just another car show'.
