I recall Dexter starting years ago, gave it a whirl, and switched off rapidly. The thought of a serial killer as a protagonist didn't appeal.

A lot of posters here rate it. So I added it to my sky watch list. And now I have been rewarded. (I have watched both the Wire and Mad Men due to recommendations here, and was rewarded with decent television.)

For others who haven't seen it and want to watch it from the start.
Dexter Wed 5 Dec, 10PM - 11PM on CBS Action.

Please no talk of later episodes/plotlines/characters (there are plenty of threads for you), this is for those of us who would like to experience it for the first time without spoilers or 'helpful' nods to how good it might get.

I think I watched the first few episodes years ago, never really got into it.

Guessing I should give it another bash though...

Thought the same thing and never bothered with it.

Then a mate of mine lent me the Season 1 box set last year and ordered me to watch it.

81 episodes later.... smile

Enjoy.

It's brilliant, although season two is the low point. Power through to season three and it just gets better and better.

It turns out that Dexter person is a killer!
Sorry if that's ruined it for you.

I always looked at the cover and thought it looked a bit gash. I was wrong. It is brilliant.

It's excellent. I ended up watching about 4 seasons in one go when I got into it.

On the latest one now and the latest episode - still good! It's an original idea so they have quite a few storyline options to go with

Watched the first episode, struggled with it a little, but will persevere.
It's running nightly.

Season 2 is my favourite season.

Personally I find the first two seasons of Dexter to be absolutely brilliant and then the show slipped into decline.

I think S5 was the first season that I would call merely 'good' rather than anything more than that.

Season 1 = very good
Season 2 = very good
Season 3 = poor
Season 4 = very good
Season 5 = average
Season 6 = poor
Season 7 = very good (10/12 episodes in)

It's worth sticking with it through the 'bad' seasons, because it does get much better again.

Watched the second ep, it may be because I gave it more attention but I do like it. Sort of.

Stick with it. Took me a while to get into, then I was absolutely hooked and blasted through three or four episodes a night.

Very close to my ratings which would be

Season 1 = very good
Season 2 = very good
Season 3 = good
Season 4 = very good
Season 5 = good
Season 6 = poor/average

Haven't seen S7 yet and hope it is a return to form

Season 4 is definitely the best.
