Recently I have taken to watching these series. While American TV is not to everyone's taste, I do like the hard-grit presentation of the episodes, also the vision of the not-so-nice side of life in the States. We have been to visit our youngest son, who works over in CA and is married to a lovely American lass, they are due a visit here next week; however, our experiences have been very positive, with trips to the Hoover Dam, Palm Springs and Las Vegas. From a fascination angle, I would love to go to New York but have probably left it a bit late, also I don't think my OH would share my interest - lol.
I really like the Lenny Briscoe character, played by Jerry Orbach, and have just discovered to my dismay that he passed away in 2004, and was only one year older than me. I like his timely quips in the programmes and in particular the banter with his partners. It is like a soap to me, and at this time I am in the era where he had recently joined 'Mikey' Logan when Mikey lost a pertner to injury. Now character Rey Curtis has joined Lenny, the banter continues in a great way, with Lenny taking the mickey over Rey's youth.
Sad? Maybe, but indulge me in my advancing years. Anyone else enjoy these?

Yes, I agree. The Americans seem to be really good at this type of programme. I also enjoyed law and order, criminal intent.

Great! Nice to know I am not alone.

Regarding dun dun I see that Law and Order UK tries but doesn't quite get there. I have been watching the UK lately also, and noted that they are using some of the US stories. Not bad but not as good as the US. Bradley Walsh is quite good though.

It's a shame they lift stories wholesale from the us version.

Bradley Walsh is stunningly good though. I reckon he's the most convincing policeman I've ever seen on tv...including those on crime watch! smile

American series for me, George Dzundza was also one of the main detectives before he was shot in an episode outside his home.
I think Lennie Briscoe replaced him in the show ?

and of course we have the Assistant District Attorneys'...Carey Lowell smile

Cereta, played by Paul Sorvino replaced Dzunda for about 1 season before Briscoe took over.
