Early stages, I would have been fairly ambivalent about it if it wasn't for the 3 magic letters, HBO

I'm not so sure I want it, Watchmen was as much a reaction against the comics of its time as it was anything else, but a whole genre has sprung up rehashing the same themes and Watchmen's cultural legacy is lessened because of this. It is a bit like listening to Sgt. Pepper when it first came out and listening to it for the first time today.

A TV adaptation just runs the risk of a cash in that doesn't understand the point of the original comic, much like the godawful prequel comics for Watchmen.

I thought the same, but HBO don't milk franchises like Fox or AMC. So I'd like to think it will have a planned number of episodes and a fixed ending.

I thought that but then they tried to push GoT to more than 7 series and more than the 8 they have currently agreed on. I am not a fan of splitting final seasons over different years as it just waters down the number of episodes you get per year. Then there is the number of prequels they are trying to develop for GoT, just seems desperate when George hasn't even wrapped up the current story.

If HBO work their magic, this could be off the scale immense! I can't wait.

I'm at a loss to understand what part of the story is shown in the trailer.

This is a new series based on the alternative history world of Watchmen. They are not re-doing the same story as the film.

They've missed a trick then.

Any from of prequel to the film would have been fine. Rorschach is one of that universes leading characters. So they could have focused on him.

Could have focused on how they get together etc

Alternative versions of the film means any link is moot imo

I think that would have been an awful idea. Enigmatic characters like Rorschach and the Comedian need to be left alone. I think the Star Wars films are an excellent example of that. We learned all we need to know about Rorschach in the book, I think any more knowledge into his past would have pushed the unlikable aspect of his character and/or eroded the enigma.

If the show is the Watchmen in the 2010s, I'd be rather interested in that

Since Jeremy Irons is playing Adrian Veidt I'd guess so.

Grace's video said he looked like Ozy, it'd a good fit.
