This sort of thing is usually (in addition to being great TV) a high-end technical demo. Manufacturers know that great content sells new products so like to support it, so I would be highly surprised if it weren't available in 4K pretty quickly, and may even have been recorded on higher resolution / high dynamic range kit.

Planet Earth 2, I was led to believe, was shot in a higher format than 4k?

Edited in 4k though? Either way, on a good 4k set this is absolutely superb. Looking forward to Blue Planet if it gets the same treatment.

One word - awesome.
The picture quality was incredible, and the sound really immersed you in the action (DTS 5.1).

This is what the BBC & David Attenborough do so well.

Agree that picture quality and sound were remarkable. Our surround sound system took full advantage of the audio track without drowning out the commentary. Our TV isn't 4k but will play in full 1080 resolution, the picture quality looked superb and far better than normal BBC output. Viewed via Sky HD box.

We found the soundtrack too loud and the dialogue too quiet? Awesome programme though, and looked stunning!

Centre speaker set too low?
As the previous poster said - it was a perfect balance.

This was a standard set in the dining room with no soundbar etc. Usually fine though. Seems to be the way with most films nowadays - overly loud effects and music.

It's using HLG, which is their version of HDR.

Yes the visuals are fantastic but I'm getting bored with the format.

1st 40 mins - Here's something pretty and unusual but its environment is in danger and we're all killing it. Here's something else but its environment is in danger and we're all killing it. etc etc.

Last 20 mins - Here's us travelling around the world, using the latest tech and having a bit of a jolly. But our environment is in danger and we're all killing it.

I am saving for the Bluray release. No idea if they are doing anything else, don't think they are.

I believe thats for when it's sold around the world. Snip the last 20 minutes, and pad the remaining 40 with adverts, and you have a 1 hour show on a commercial channel.

There's no 4K on Freeview, if that's what you mean...
