Did anyone catch the first episode of this on Dave on Sunday?

I quite enjoyed it, pretty much Scrapheap Challenge but car stuff only. Two teams are set a challenge and have 4 days to build a car fit for purpose.

This week they had to build from scrap a car that was quicker around an off road course than a Bentayga (driven by Shane Lynch).

It's presented by Shane Lynch and that Ralph chap (used to do that show with Kahn). It's just a shame Lisa Rogers isn't on it!

Just saw the first episode last night and quite liked it. It's basically exactly scrapheap challenge but entirely car focused. They even have stuff "hidden" in the scrap yard that's clearly designed for one team to find to ensure the two teams take very different approaches to the challenge. Straight out of the scrapheap challenge playbook. The engineer guy presenter even dressed like Robert Llewellyn used to for scrapheap challenge so whoever is making this is clearly a big fan.

The only thing I did not like too much was the guy who drove the Bentayga but they were not in it much so not too much of a problem. The amount of reality TV stuff outside of the driver guy was fairly Ok. Nothing too terrible in the way of scripted drama's.

I just watched episode 1 and found it remarkably similar to scrapheap challenge. I am sure the music playing as they introduced the teams was the same.
A bit light on the engineering side but not too bad. I didn’t mind the obviously planted components as there was still quite a lot to do and they didn’t make any secret of hiding the parts unlike scrapheap challenge seemed to.
The only part I didn’t like was Shane Lynch, completely unnecessary.

Episode 2 is on later today so I will watch that.

Episode 2 was good I thought. Just been looking at the upcoming episodes: Drag race with a 911 Turbo, braking test against an F Type SVR, a towing competition and some other stuff.

It’s watchable. One of the girls was introduced as an F1 (development)driver. I wonder who she drives for. Scalectrix ?

Pretty sure it Jessica Hawkins she raced in the w series this year I also think she's involved in stunt driving with the same team as on the show.

Just checked a d yea its her she done driving for fast and furious live not sure where the f1 driving has come from no links to anything about that from what I can see.

Oh and the scrapyard is the same one that featured In the tv series scrappers.

Second episode was Ok.

They are a bit light on the engineering details though. I do wonder who they aim this sort of thing at. I would have thought the type of person who would watch this would be interesting in more details on the solutions where as they skim over things. So it's aimed at someone who wants to see people build custom cars out of scrap but who don't want to be bothered with anything too technical?

I saw that it featured Shane Lynch and found something else to watch instead.

From the previous comments it was a good move.

On paper this would be right up my street, but the episode I watched was crap, I won't be watching again.

Works for me, I’m enjoying it.

Amazes me that people analyse TV programmes so much - it’s the same with Top Gear. It’s enertaining and if people don’t like it, just don’t watch it (not aimed at yourself).

I don't think I am over analysing it particularly. Just for me I would like them to go into more detail on the technical challenges in the builds. For example mounting an engine from a front wheel drive car in the rear of a Scorocco has quite a number of hurdles to get past and they really just skimmed over most of that.

It's just my preference in a show about building cars from scrap that they go into more detail on the challenges involved in the building process.

I have to agree. The old scrap heap challenges explained a lot about the builds in detail and included interesting animations. They also made it entertaining and some of the team members were hilarious characters.

This new show has a lot of potential, but there's too much waffle before the builds start and a lot of skirting over things. I'm going to keep watching it regardless, just because i like the botchy engineering and stupid stuff

Some interesting approaches to solving this week’s challenge. In a way I find it quite entertaining.

Didn't do their research into why Navara's are in the Scrap Yard either. Soon as I saw it I thought the chassis would be rotten in the middle.

Me too. I assume there's a fair degree of fakery in what happens but I quite like it. I've liked the completely different solutions that teams have arrived at. (Possibly part of my assumed fakery.) A bit confused by the idea that teams would make something in a scrapyard and then have ONE chance to complete a challenge. Perhaps it's because if they tried again their creations would invariably fall apart.

Kind of amazed the 2cv thing worked. I was thinking all the way through the build this is the type of over ambitious complicated build that always failed to work on Scrapheap challenge. I do wonder if they had had to go for a second run if it would have made it. No surprise the tractor thing completely failed.

Not very good this week,2 badly designed cars.
Have they never heard of weight transfer under braking ?
If anything the extra axle should have been at the front.
Light weight vehicle, extra wide rubber and massive brakes with abs was there only chance of getting anywhere near the Jag

Our kit car group applied to this programme but were rejected because "we knew too much about building cars" so you could be right
