I always find the film difficult to follow because I can't make out the dialogue. Is it just me or does everyone mumble all the way through?
I must have seen it 10 times and am still not sure of the plot.Something to do with 2 Ross brothers ,wrong one gets shot in the hotel room ?

No, Johnny Ross is informing on his Chicago mafia gang and is brought to San Francisco by social climber politician Senator Chalmers to testify, Bullitt is tasked to looking after him until he does. However Ross has paid a used car salesman called Albert Rennick who looks a bit like him and is completely unrelated to him to take his place. Ross makes sure the Chicago gang find out where he's gone and a couple of local hitmen kill Rennick believing him to be Ross, this is all part of Ross's plan to disappear with everyone thinking he is dead they won't be looking for him anymore. But Bullitt works it out and tracks down the real Ross. Shootout at the airport, Ross dead. Chalmers crawls back under his rock.Scabutz said:
Yep they dubbed the sound of a race car which had no syncro hence the double de clutching.
I know the charger was the much faster car but the Mustang is better and McQueen was the king of cool.
Oooo lovely stuffI know the charger was the much faster car but the Mustang is better and McQueen was the king of cool.
Not watched it for years but just found a 4K clip of the chase on Youtube. Never noticed the double de clutching on the up shift before.. although I do it myself when the box is cold, always have and its just habit now.
It is a magnificent film, I think McQueen is about as cool here as it is possible for any man to be.
Jacqueline Bisset is utterly gorgeous but a little oddly cast and I love the early role for Robert Duvall one of my favourite actors.
The score is what gets me, the imagery, just makes you want to be there, just a great film.
