I've always been fascinated by the story of Donald Crowhurst.

The week end sailor who entered a solo non stop round the world race in the late 1960s, tried to fake it by wandering around in the Atlantic, then went mad and disappeared overboard.

There have been at least 3 films about him. A documentary, a feature a couple of years ago called 'The Mercy', and another feature film made at about the same time called 'Crowhurst' which I watched last night.

Pretty disappointing, IMHO. I've seen suggestions that the portrayal of Crowhurst losing it is better than Colin Firth's in The Mercy' and there's something in that. But the low budget is a bit too obvious and there are a couple of sequences of characters bursting into song which just seems designed to make them look ridiculous.

Is it a musical?

I've been fascinated by the story of Donald Crowhurst since I was a kid. I remember it being a news item at the time and afterwards read thje book "The Strange Voyage of Donald Crowhurst". There used to be a museum dedicated to him in Teignmouth - which I also visited around 30 years ago.

No, it's just a bit 'arty'.

'The Mercy' is included on Amazon Prime, and is far better in my opinion.
