Sky at night - WTF.............

watched it last night as not seen it in ages (i thought it had stopped ages ago)
a once technical in depth no nosense discussion for those interested in astronomy has been "bbc"d
dumb down
presenters asking stupid questions
and for some reason trying to make buying binoculors into some sort of underground spy meeting taking 3 minuites of airtime to get to a point where they tell you what type to buy (duhh bigger is better)

its ok to BBC to have a technical in depth detailed show, not everything has to appeal to the snowflake generation..... sir patrick moore will be turning in his grave......

I used to watch it regularly. Like you, I liked the technical aspects of the programme but gave up watching when it tried to become "topical" with its dumb-downed approach. Can't stand the over enthusiastic female presenter who sounds orgasmic everytime she opens her mouth to discuss a comet, eclipse or new discovery. I know it is a bit nerdy and not for a large audience but that used to be its appeal. Now it's gone "Strictly Come Astronomy" I'm afraid its not for me!
I still think it fulfills it's roll admirably. Even though I was a huge fan of Patrick Moore and what he did for over 60 plus years regarding popularising astronomy, in the last few years of his presence on the programme he was actually slowing it down and restricting what it could do.
After he passed away, the programme picked up quite a bit.
I like Chris Lintott a lot and, even though Maggie Aderin-Pocock is not everybody's taste, she contains that slight eccentricity that Moore himself possessed.
And unlike Moore, who was only ever an amateur astronomer (although a highly respected one) , both Lintott and Aderin-Pocock are professionals in the field of space science and engineering.
Their "normal" programmes do exactly as The Sky at Night has always done and I always try to catch up with it at some point - although normally these days it's through the iPlayer..
