When’s a spoiler not a spoiler?
Discussion
I’ve just had my Wife get arsey with me because I said “call of the wild” had a sad ending.
Apparently this is a spoiler and ruined it for her.
In my opinion it was written 120 years ago, been made into several films and it’s not like I said how it was sad
I’d understand if I said who’s father Luke was or that Bruce was a ghost all along but fffs., what was she expecting. Cuddly puppies?

It is a spoiler. On one hand you've ruined the emotional end for her, and then you've also put her on tenterhooks because before watching she'll be second guessing who'll get it, which can have an effect on how much you root for someone. Doesn't matter how old the book is, it's not well known and I don't know how it ends. I've watched enough sad ending films not to have another ruined for me. I don't mind this because I will not be watching that film, but what you said to her was unthinking.
It's possible you may wanna spoiler that post.

Let's take a well known example - the 1997 film "Titanic"
It should not have been a spoiler to say that by the conclusion of the film, the boat has hit an iceberg and ends up deep at the bottom of the ocean. I think most of us who were around when the movie was released will remember lots of people taking the mickey out of "Americans" for telling people off who told them that the boat sank in the movie reviews and even in the TV spots, as well as if you had ever heard of it in history class or similar before.
However, it probably IS a spoiler for you to specifically tell people about the fate of the major characters within the film itself. Even if within the first 20 minutes you know that Kate Winslet's character survives the ordeal, you still remain unaware of how Leo DiCaprio's character ends up until you see the conclusion of the film. So to tell someone "Oh this has a sad ending" would possibly have been a spoiler even more than just saying "the boat sinks" because of course, the plot of the film is about how the people cope within the context of a real historic event of the ship sinking.
