Last Tango in Halifax on iPlayer
Discussion
We didn't see any of this when it first started in 2012, there were 5 series six episodes each.
It's all on iPlayer now so thought we'd give it a go despite the presumption that it would be similar to Waiting for God and One Foot in the Grave.
I'd have to say my expectations were confounded, and that believe it or not we are half way through now and finding it gripping. It's not so much the central characters, it's the families that provide a lot of the interest, and the quality of writing and acting that makes it so good.
Highly recommended

I can't say we "watch" this, it comes on without thinking about as part of Sunday evening's viewing, but I did pay a bit of attention to last night's episode.
Are they always heavy going - I was thinking, what's happened to the news? Looked at the clock and couldn't believe it had only been on half-an-hour.!

I was expecting a gritty drama, as most recent northern things (except Bad Move) which is quite similar.
It's easy viewing and as light comedy doesn't need to take itself seriously or be hilarious.
I'm sure I'll get through them all. Aided by the prospect of explicit scenes starring the lead women.

The first series were very good I thought.
Subsequent ones less so, but they are still OK.

A bit conservative in contrast to the northern working class and makes for a bit of conflict from which she still emerges generally likeable. But I think that's the key, you don't end up disliking any of them, even Paul.
Maybe the issue is she's playing it as less of a straight role than the rest.
Nicola Walker is brilliant. Such an honest portrayal of the character and Sarah Lancashire executes the dry humour so well.
Derek Jacobi though I don't think suits this style of programme.

Well I don't dislike her character as much as some of the other posters seem to anyway!

We're watching the first ever episode as I type. I think you've summed it up very well. I even agree about Derek Jacobi, he seems the odd one out but I can't put my finger on why.A bit conservative in contrast to the northern working class and makes for a bit of conflict from which she still emerges generally likeable. I've been watching the new stuff. A couple of them have been eating too may pies, and there's a couple of characters missing, I suppose either they didn't want to do this series or the producers didn't want to pay them.
I thought my mum was just being b
hy when she said the same of Sarah Lancashire but I notices she was carrying a bit of extra weight in S2 and realised it's been a steady increase. Still would though..
