During this time of crisis with people losing their jobs etc. should they still be expected to pay the Telly Tax?

Should .gov.uk suspend the license fee for the next 3 months, at least?

I'm not sure what the connection is between the TV licence and the pandemic

My feeling is that I can't see any particular reason to cancel it for this. If anything, people will get more value for their money!

I suppose that it could be argued that it incentivises people to stay at home if they don't have a TV licence or watch TV already

How about this:

A person has lost their job due to the pandemic and have to cut back on expenditure.

Are you saying they have to put paying the telly tax before paying their rent, mortgage and/or food?

The government and banks are putting in arrangements for mortgages and rents so they can carry on paying the tv licence.

What about food? Oh silly me, they can visit the local food bank which will free up what money they have to pay the TV License.

Council tax is more than the TV licence - why not stop paying that?

Write to Boris and whine to him then that you cannot afford any food because of paying £13 a month and everything should be free for you.

Because rubbish won't pile up on the street if I stop paying the TV License. However, I'd argue for a reduction on the CT for only essential services.

Feel better?

I can't find where I stated that I "cannot afford any food" or that I think the BBC should be "free" for me.

Blimey, you lost "it" there.

You started this whole pointless thread about cancelling the licence fee and brought up food banks as below.

We commonly use the pronoun "it" as both a subject and an object pronoun:

Don’t drink the milk. It smells terrible.

Has anyone seen my phone? I can’t find it anywhere.

We often use it in question tags:

That furniture is lovely. It isn’t too expensive for us, is it?

You know the flat with three bedrooms by the supermarket? It’s the best one we’ve seen so far, isn’t it?
Lovely. Now, what's the difference between license and licence?

By the way, if you don't watch live TV you don't have to pay for a licence. Any non-BBC "on demand" service is viewable without the requirement for you to pay the telly tax.

License is a verb.

Licence is a noun.

Does this help?

You got me bang to rights on the first bit, it's a fair cop! You win!

Problem with the 2nd part is Capita.

You clearly have an agenda. Why not just state it instead of asking a question then attempting to argue with answers which don't follow it?

Yeah sure. In this time of crisis when people are losing their jobs/income, should they be expected to pay the TV Licence or should .gov.uk suspend TV Licence fee payment for 3 months at least.

I hope that's clear enough for you.

If you don't watch / listen to the BBC and don't see any value in it, then just stop paying it if it means that much to you.

Why do they need to prioritise paying it before rent, mortgage, food, etc? How about they pay after?
