I've been watching a lot more telly recently (wonder why?), and many of the adverts on commercial tv are still for businesses like car dealers, electrical retailers, furniture stores and holiday firms - all stuff that most people aren't remotely interested in buying at the moment and, as of tonight, stuff that people couldn't buy even if they wanted to.

I realise that advertising slots are booked in advance and have to be paid for and fulfilled, but can anybody, maybe in the business, provide a more detailed insight into how tv advertising works, how much it costs, and how it's going to be affected by the crisis we're in?

Look up the share price of itv. That I believe is very closely if not completely based on expected ad revenues.

I think this has been explained already. Someone elsewhere said that advert slots are sold and paid for in advance.

No idea if that’s accurate but it would seem to make sense.
