Thanks for the heads up; I remember listening to a lengthy podcast series on this murder so it should be interesting.

I remember this being featured on Crimewatch on a number of occasions in period. Watched Episode 1 last night. Will watch the next one.

Have you a link to the podcast?

As for this, was interesting enough. That Rees fella's a proper annoying prat though who I wouldn't trust to look after a glass of water.

Partway through the first episode. Will finish this evening but initially struggling to warm to the style of this series / the way the story is being told. Probably just due to us starting quite late in the evening after recording it.

What did register with me is that most involved seem a bit 'wrong'un' / not to be trusted.

I'd read the book written by Daniel's brother a couple of years ago so I was interested in this, especially since there was interviews with the main people mentioned in the book.

I doubt those responsible will ever face justice for this, unfortunately.

It reveals a world where there are no good guys or bad guys - just a lot of not very nice guys. Indeed, the behaviour of the criminals didn't differ much from the behaviour of the police.

I thought it was well done... Despite having listened to the podcast series; I was 80-90% through the show and thinking Jonathan R and Sid F seemed like quite nice, old men, who were perhaps misunderstood...

And then they start exposing the possibility of them basically telling the interviewer lies (e.g. JR telling DM's wife he was dead, the auction robbery, etc) and suddenly you get this huge tension reappear and build to the end!

Looking forward to the next one. Very disappointed that it seems like the family will never, ever get justice. All very fishy indeed.

JR getting mugged outside his house for the auction money... yeah, that happened! biggrin

I see a world where someone could damage the night vault, knowing their routine, and then follow the guy with the bag wherever he went next but... yeah, righto!

They all liked a drink, didn't they!

They were all unlikeable scrotes, it was interesting in a " weren't coppers really crap in the 1980s ? " way
but as a unsolved crime it was less than engaging,

The probability is it's still unsolved because many people still alive want
it to remain that way.

Very much so. Rees and Fillery are as guilty as sin IMO. To claim there are no lies in the original statement, but the might be omissions, unintentional omissions, when here was clearly in the same pub the day before. Was plainly to clear himself out of the situation.

My overriding feeling after watching the first 2 episodes was that all of this lot deserve each other - what a bunch, both sides!

Did anyone else struggle with the actors all looking the same?

Nice!

I did struggle with the actors looking similar and the moving back and forth in time, got a bit confused with who was who but maybe I should have been paying more attention, rather than trying to look at the laptop and tv at the same time.

Well, it ain't a 'Murder in the Outback' style whodunit is it...

His partner killed him, or had him killed. The Police helped because they're been in on the Car Auction theft and didn't want to be found out.

The most startling thing for me was how close to the stereotype of "Coppers were as bad as the Crims" that you'd see in Films / TV back in the 70s and 80s and how stark the change was with the next generation that came forward.

I am sure it's not meant to be funny.

But it is!
