Anyone else had a message that BBC iPlayer is going to stop working on the PlayStation 3?
According to mine it's ending on October 8th, but I can't find anything online about it.

And secondary question, what's the best thing to replace it with? Amazon Firestick?
If it makes any difference it's going into a Panasonic HD plasma TV

Don't know about a PS3 but computationally it's more than a match for decoding iplayer streams. They probably can't justify updating the PS3 codec decoder to support new technologies based on the limited number of users.

I've used a Roku 3 dongle for years and years and I'm a big fan. It's still going strong but mine doesn't support 4k. Nowadays they do support 4k and come in the same kind of format as the Amazon sticks, but I would avoid Amazon as they tend to try to lock you out of using competitors services. Same with Apple TV and Sky Now or whatever it's called. Sky hardware is identical to Roku hardware, but Roku is service agnostic and works with all services including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sky, Apple TV, iplayer, 4OD, My5, ITV Hub, and lots more.
