Can anyone suggest a WW1 film for 7 & 8 year old? Warhorse? - although I actually remember that being quite a tough watch...1917 is too much....any other suggestions?

I think by it’s very definition a film about WW1 aimed at children isn’t going to easy to find...
You could try “The Trench” with, amongst others, a pre-Bond Daniel Craig and a young Danny Dyer.
(Although not quite in the same gory league as 1917 it’s still pretty brutal in places.)

Forgot about that but that’s a bloody good shout. Ideal.

When I was a kid there was a TV serial on ITV called "Tom Grattan's War" which I loved. It was made for kids.

And it looks like you can watch it on You Tube -

Sgt Stubby: An Unlikely Hero

Animated children’s film about a dog in WWI. I have never seen it so don’t know if it is any good.

Lawrence of Arabia? Being an older film there's no blood and gore violence and it might be a good history lesson for one of the other fronts.

There's another one almost 3 hours long, should be ok for kids and they learn a lot about life in the trenches. It's so good they split it up into 6 parts, Blackadder Goes Forth.

My daughter just watched Private Peaceful at school, and was so taken with it,we had to get the dvd. It's a 12, and like War Horse, based on a Michael Morpurgo book.

I watched this with the kids as well. As an adult it wasn't up to much but the kids liked it.

D’you really think the ironic satire of Black Adder would be understood?

The Blue Max? Could be a bit slow in places for a child.
