In a post in another thread on here, I mentioned a film called "The Car". This was a 70s B movies horror with some good practical stunts. No CGI here. This got me thinking about other films that petrolheads would enjoy but perhaps have never heard of.

This list so far includes:
The obvious Fast and Furious franchise.
Ronin.
Gone in 60 Seconds.
Deathproof.
Days of thunder.
Drive Angry.
The Italian Job.
The Transporter franchise.

I also have some maybe not so well known suggestions that perhaps some of the younger PHers may not have heard of.

Vanishing Point.
Gone in 60 Seconds-the original 1974 film.
The Car.
Christine.
The Wraith.
Bullit.
Two Lane Blacktop.
The Driver (1978).
Duel.
Smokey and The Bandit.
Cannonball Run.
Death Race 2000. (The 1974 David Carradine/Sylvester Stallone one).
The Robbery. Not strictly a car film but some good chase scenes.

I'm sure there are many more that you folk out there can add.

Good topic smile

Your older list has some really 'interesting' films in it, in the 70s quite a few of them were actually part of a sort of informal genre called chase movies, right?

The trivia of those old film is also great, in The Driver none of the characters have names, just referred to by role, the lead character only says 350 words hehe

The original Gone in 60 Seconds is over 50% car chase, the big crash where he hits the telegraph pole pulling off the freeway was an accident and reasonably badly injured the driver, when crews arrived his first words were "did we get it?", almost all of the cars are from the directors personal collection, including various hum drum background vehicles. During the chase the car and police rush past a staged 'accident', however the members of the public had no idea it was a film set, and are genuinely trying to wave down the police hehe

I'm sure others can add to those / correct me, I do particularly enjoy the atmosphere in 70s films.

To contribute, Rush and Senna are both enjoyable enough to perhaps even entertain a non-petrolhead as well.

Probably think of a few more later, but Drive and Baby Driver should definitely be on the moderns section.

Gumball Rally.

Letting the actual cars provide part of the soundtrack is always welcome.

More of a documentary than a film, however " Love the Beast" is fantastic.

Some good shouts on here. Some of these films show big stars in early roles. That California Kid looks like I'd enjoy it. I quite like martin Sheen Films.

Oh, yes that reminds me of another film starring his lad, Charlie Sheen. It's more of a biker film though. Beyond the Law (AKA Fixing the Shadows).
