Just watched this on sky documentaries It’s about Jaguar and Norman Dewis and Stirling Moss and the Dunlop disc brake that was first used on the C type on the 1952 Mille Miglia.
Yes, seen it before. It was the event that lost Jaguar the race they coveted the most - Le Mans. SCM persuaded them that the Mercedes were so quick that some more streamlining was required, with resulting bodywork alterations that caused overheating.
IIRC the problem was the hastily-rerouted water pipes which got vapour locks(?) in them; it wasn't purely down to aerodynamic issues. Don't know if it's true, but it's reckoned the Jaguars could have won if they'd kept the original body shape.
