just flicking around I I stumbled across this (quite a funny story TBH) - but it transpires that at one point Julia Roberts, Prince and Mel Gibson were penciled in for the lead roles eek I'm not sure that, other than Prince, that would have worked

Mel possibly, but hard to think of anyone other than Milla Jovovich as lilu now, tbh.

Was it Chris Tucker who played the radio host - Ruby Rhod? I'm pretty certain he said he drew much inspiration from Prince for the role!

it was Chris Tucker - and I hated his screeching performance, I'm at the point now where I merely dislike that performance rather than being moved to tears!

Does grate a bit doesn't it! I think that's the idea though, you're not supposed to like him.

One memory from this film was when we watched at the cinema there was a collective, hushed "is that Lee Evans" when he appeared. Was at the height of his stand up career at the time so to see him in a film with Bruce Willis was a bit of a jolt!
