Being old I watched the original at the movies. Then the later ones. Then the earlier ones.

And now we have got Disney for a year biggrin

So, if I want to start from scratch again and to see everything in chronological order .. what is the right things I have to select ?

After that can you advise on offshoots ? Which are better watching than others?

edit - I somehow completely misread your post! The 'correct' order is
1,2,3, Solo(?), Rogue One, 4,5,6,7,8,9

I'd go 4,5,2,3,6 so you get the original story, then a bit of background, then the conclusion to the original story.
Then 7 and Rogue One to see some new characters in the same universe.
The Solo to get a bit of a different spin on things.
Then 1,8,9 to see why Star Wars fans now hate Star Wars hehe

Rogue One.
Star Wars IV (New Hope)
Star Wars V (Empire)
Star Wars VI (RotJ)
The Mandalorian TV series.

Forget the rest.

1-9, then the spin offs, then 2 seasons of The Mandalorian.

Then see if you can guess where The Mandalorian fits in without Googling it.

Not sure how but I’ve squeezed all that in over the past 2 weeks.

I would say in release order, but then you have this force ghost guy at the end of ep VI that you've never seen before, unless you can get the original versions.

I was very disappointed with VII, VIII and IX as well as Solo (Solo seemed like a film that just didn't need to be made), but Rogue One is an excellent film. I think it helps to have seen the original trilogy before Rogue One though.

Mandalorian has been brilliant. I haven't watched any of the cartoons except "Droids" back in the 80s.

It's an interesting chronology. 3-4 years between each of the original trilogy films and then after ep VI the franchise was pretty dead until Timothy Zahn wrote his Thrawn trilogy in the early 1990s and then the Doom clone game came out (Dark Forces).

Genuinely, if you can pretend it ends with 6, do that.

Watching 7/8/9 will only ruin things honestly. Utterly terrible and takes a lot away from the originals.

I would watch the prequel trilogy though.

Machete order is the classic suggestion;

Plus rogue one at some point in time. Arguably best of the lot.

I'd be more brutal :

Rogue One.
Star Wars IV (New Hope)

I think that both Empire and Jedi are good in parts but fundamentally flawed movies that are padded out with stuff designed to sell more action figures rather than tell a coherent story. They're not as bad as 1..3 and 7..9, but they foreshadowed what Star Wars was to become.

The Mandalorian is great, but I see it as separate to the Empire/rebel story.

4,5 & 6 in that order screw the rest.

Mandalorian is very good, but has no impact on the above.

Rogue One? Possibly one of the best Star Wars movies ever made.

For me;
Ep1 = skip it
Ep2
Clone Wars TV show = up to season 7 Ep 9
Ep3
Clone Wars Tv Show = Season 7 Eps 10-12
Solo
Rebels TV Show
Rogue One
Ep4
Ep5
Ep6
The Mandalorian
The End, forget 7-9, they're utterly st and just crap all over the franchise

Yes, Clone Wars and Rebels are cartoons, but they're very good and add a lot to the overall universe, to be honest, if Clone Wars wasn't a cartoon it would probably have a high certificate for some episodes.

I’m going to say it.. Rogue one is poor.

I enjoyed it alright at the time, but it’s actually a bit rubbish.

Here’s where I really lose the room. If I had to choose I’d probably watch Solo before Rogue one.
(To be clear I’d prefer to choose neither)

Both are pointless films to cover up minor plot holes in the original movie. At least Solo had a couple of characters I liked in it.

Looking on Disney + and there's a Clone Wars movie, does this fit in anywhere or just ignore?

Agreed about Rogue One. I've said this a couple of times on here and it always gets ignored. It was full of bland, unlikeable characters and, let's face it, any Star Wars fan knows what was going to happen. It's like being surprised by what happens to the ship in "Titanic". Getting excited because Darth Vader shows up at the end? OK. I think it's probably because it appeared during the release of the humdrum new trilogy.

Solo though? A reasonable film spoiled in a few ways, not least by the casting of the utterly one-dimensional Emilia Clarke (ref Terminator: Genysis)

Back on topic: Watch IV, V and IV. That's all you need to know.

I like Machete order. But if you really must go chronological:

Episode 1
Episode 2
Clone Wars (movie)
Clone Wars (TV show)
Episode 3
Solo
Rebels
Rogue One
Episode 4
Episode 5
Episode 6
Mandalorian
Resistance
Episode 7
Episode 8
Episode 9

I didn’t mind 7-9, it was 1-3 that were the worst IMO. At least the more recent ones gave closure to the Skywalker story.

In the words of Luke;
[Luke]Noooooooooooooooooooo[/Luke]

laugh I really enjoyed it, not just because of Vader's hallway scene, it was way better than the prequels or sequels. However, I must admit the Clone Wars series gave me a better appreciation of the story of the prequels and I appreciate them more for it. However, the prequels had one thing the sequels didn't, a cohesive story across all three films.

I could give loads of reason to watch clone wars, Ventress, Maul, Hando, Dooku, savage, Talzin, Grievous, Ahsoka and loads more but mainly for the bearded guy here....
