Fake Blu-Ray? How to spot?
Discussion
I have maybe 30 BRs and I've ripped almost all of them using MakeMKV and an appropriate drive. Old films, newer films, random oddity films. No problems ever.
I've been struggling to find The Machine (2013) on on-demand or anything just to watch again, and it's never been on telly for years, so I thought I'd splash out £6 for it via a seller on Amazon, dispatched from Amazon. Looked fine. New wrapped and sealed.
It looks legitimate with a nice sharp printed sleeve in the proper BR case etc.
But having looked at all my other BRs which have a subtle gunmetal/bronze tint to the data surface, this new BR is like really bright chrome/silver in comparison.
I've got a feeling that this is just a good copy.
The main problem is that my BR player/MakeMKV is just finding a ton of errors on it and won't play it or rip it at all.
The next step is to see if it works in my PS3 which is my only other BR player.
I don't really know too much about BR, and don't have a huge selection for reference, but I'm assuming the bright silver look is not correct, and probably a BR writer has been used to make it, rather than a proper BR press or whatever they use, hence the different appearance?
Obviously if it's fake it can just go back to the seller with reason being it's counterfeit.
Thanks for any advice!
