New series on ITV.

First one is owner of Wyldecrest Caravan Parks.

Actually really good, he comes across well in it.

He is, by all accounts, an exceedingly unpleasant individual. There have been many articles in Private eye, over the years, detailing his tactics when dealing with some of the residents of his park homes.

Interesting tonight. At Bristol Street Motors. I worked here in sales for a few years just as Vertu group took over. Will second what the guy said about pressure of working in sales.

Bristol Meat Strokers, did anyone else watch this?

Terry the valeter was a top employee. I was quite disheartened that all the valeters are subbed in and don't get contracts or anything. In my own car sales place I view them as a crucial part of the team. If the cars aren't clean people aren't buying them whilst not getting the glory of sales, or the skills of the workshop staff its just as important and every bit a cog in the wheel.

Yeah I felt sorry for Terry, especially as you can see the hard work he puts in. Glad they offered him a full time job in the end.

I’ve been away from the trade for 15 years. The company I worked for started subbing out the valeting before I left.

Doesn’t look like much has changed. High pressure targets and little thanks for the effort you put in.

Loved working in dealers and have life long friends from these days.

Bristol Street guy did not come across as someone I'd want to work for. Giving someone a permanent job that he should have had in the first place is not exactly generous, and certainly not compared to the giveaways on the US version.
And as for the caravan geezer Alfie 'Best', as noted above he's about as far from Best as you can get if the reports in Private Eye are even close to the truth.

Seems when these smaller dealer groups get takes over by the big ones it all goes downhill.

I worked for a family owned group in scotland and getting bought out by a large national group it was the end of the road for me so much so I couldn’t face staying in the trade.

compared to the American version that has been on for years, the series so far has been rubbish, the hand picked staff at selected locations came across as contrived, the fake concern, surprise and sympathy for employees, these characters couldn't give a monkeys, its all about the numbers and if you don't like it phuq off.

So they are going to give all employees pay rises and mortgage deposits because they have a sob story.

With regard to the valeter, haven't there been a few high profile court cases about this, Uber was one I remember, if you only have one customer and they tell you what to do, you're not self employed, BSM probably realised that they have cocked up and need to sort it quickly. A cynic might say the mortgage money was backpay, holiday pay, sickness, NI etc etc

Agree. I worked for the original BSM. We were on £4500 a year basic with a nice commission. Some of the lads who had been there years were earning 60 70 80k selling lots of Cars. It was a great atmosphere. Then Forrester came along and killed the fun. When Vertu took over they upped the basic to £12k and cut the commission to basically nothing. A lot of staff left and were replaced by youngsters who just took orders. The van man reminded me of lots of people I used to work with. A real Good laugh and fun to work with but probably should be kerbing the skirt on the bedroom floor jokes to the boss! Reminded me of David Brent.

Exactly the feeling I got, he's a walking laptop, I imagine the shareholders like him but you can't see many employees jumping out of the trenches for him.

It's the shareholders who matter - companies are legally obliged to look after the best interests of their shareholders.

Sure. That's why people like Forrester don't mind looking like automatons. They're using it as an opportunity to show the shareholders that there's no room for empathy or emotion at the top of a big company. I did think it was meant to be heartwarming content though rather than a cold demonstration of good business practice with poor sods tugging their forelock in gratitude. Maybe I've got that wrong, but if that's what the UK production company's approach is based on then I won't bother watching any more episodes.

Pickfords tonight.
Looks interesting so far. Blokes sleeping in the back of the removal overnight.
They said they do get an allowance but not disclosed it.
Should be interesting to see if they’re trying to save the money or it’s just not enough
