The beginning of films

A grumpy old man writes...
...is it just me that finds the bits before the film actually starts, annoying? You think, is this the start of it? - then you realise it's just some smart-alec graphic telling you who made the film. Then another one. And another one.
I refer to them as corporate w*nkjingles, and honestly can never remember the names of the companies one minute later, so am at a loss at to why they bother spending money on them.

But as these production company logos have become prevalent, the actual titles and opening credits of most movies have shrunk away to virtually nothing.
I watched “Three Days of the Condor” the other night. Mid-70s production. Paramount (A Gulf+Western company) slide at the start, not animated like today’s, and then a good couple of minutes of opening credits while Robert Redford rides a motor bike to work before the movie starts.

Conversely, I love a long drawn out movie title, like the sliding letters in The Terminator, or the appearing letter segments in Alien. And if they can find a way to incorporate the studio's logo into the first scene of the movie, that works for me too. I can't think of any examples, but I think Warner Brothers does this quite a bit with their wavy warehouse roofs thing...

Paramount do it in all the Indiana Jones movies. Silverage said:

Amazing coincidence.Last night I took my copy of ..Condor round to my mate's house for our regular Friday movie and supper night.
Unfortunately my DVD is region 1 so wouldn't play on his player.
My cheapo player runs everything you can throw at it, so will watch it at home when Le Mans is not live streaming.
Ended up watching The Counterfeiter, subtitled story based on fact of the Nazi plot to flood the Allies banking system with counterfeit notes.
Very thought provoking.

I recently resubscribed to Sky Sports for the football and they added on Sky Cinema for £3 as part of the deal. “Condor” is one of the few good older movies I found on there to watch. It looked really good in HD.Last night I took my copy of ..Condor round to my mate's house for our regular Friday movie and supper night.
