Been with Sky for 15 odd years now, with my last Sky+ HD box providing me with what I thought was a pretty good service.
Anyway, came out of contract, so called Sky to see what I could get. I managed to start a new contract with a free 1tb Sky Q box supplied and engineer installed for free. He replaced the whole dish too, as it was getting a little manky.
Got a package with telephone line rental, calls, fast broadband (70 gig), Sky Signature, Sky Cinema, Full Sky Sports, 3D, HD, and Netflix for £79 a month. Didn't think that was too bad.
Anyway the point of the post is to say that if you haven't yet upgraded to Sky Q - I would highly recommend it. To me, it's brilliant - such an improvement on the Sky+. Firstly, I have a 10 year old LG HD TV, which always gave a decent picture, but it is measurably better with the new box. Had to troll through a few settings to eliminate a bit of occasional motion stutter, but I've tuned that out now, and it's looking amazing.
The new menu and layout takes a wee bit of getting used to, but doesn't take long and once you do, again it offers so many more options.
The voice-controlled remote, despite being a bit small and harder to see the button you want quickly - overcomes that with the voice control. It's fab - watching a recorded programme, come to the ads, just say to the remote "fast forward three minutes..." and almost immediately the programme is at the beginning of the next bit, without even seeing ads being fast-forwarded on screen like with the old box.
So just thought I'd let people know, if you're thinking of making the change - in my opinion, it's vastly better.
Happy viewing!!

I love my Sky Q.
There's only one thing I miss and that's the reminder facility that was on the old TV guide.
It's great isn't it? And yes, true - but I can honestly count on one hand the amount of times I used that feature, so I don't miss it.There's only one thing I miss and that's the reminder facility that was on the old TV guide.

I love Sky Q, my only gripe is not being able to start playing a recorded programme with a user differed start time, you have to start from the beginning and fast forward to where you want to be.
Love that I have Netflix and Amazon Video on my Sky Q box menu.
Pause it and then use the left and right arrow keys to whiz through it quicklyLove that I have Netflix and Amazon Video on my Sky Q box menu.

After a few years of SkyQ, 1 main / 2 mini/ 1 booster i’m giving up in it
It has been good for fitness, running around the house re-pairing the boxes etc on a regular basis..
I know I could go the hardwired route. But if i’m dicking about with that I might as well switch to say Virgin & get the new customer price.
Of just go freeview as I have Netflix/Prime/Britbox
Contract is up next month, so will call it a day.
I like the interface & convenience. But not the flakiness..

After a couple of decades, gave a month notice today.
90% of what i watch is on freeview
Paid £140 upfront for 12 months Prime & Britbox
Get Netflix / Disney+ via family members..
The apps on Samsung TVs are friendly
So £600 net / £1000 gross (before the £5 a month increase letter) a year better off too!
Great to drive down the outgoings

I quite like Sky Q, although I probably don’t use it enough to justify the cost.
But I really wish you could get 4K through the Mini boxes.
I find the lack of 4k a bit odd on the mini box, I asked about it when Q first came out and they seemed confused that I was even asking of it would be available. But I really wish you could get 4K through the Mini boxes.

Toying with doing this aswell and going to Freeview as we watch Channels 1-5, Netflix and kids on Disney+ 99% the time. It does p** me off having to pay Sky £5 for HD...my monthly bill is around £120 now for Tv (no Sport/Movies), broadband and phone. 90% of what i watch is on freeview

Trouble is to get what we have through Sky the cheapest I could find (we live in the middle of nowhere, no fibre etc so very ltd choice) was coming in around £15 month cheaper for the same sort of deal and a **ty UI....so everytime it comes back to Sky for a little bit more or nowt! I am very tempted to do what you did and just get phone/net for about £40 and try to deal with it. For complicated and boring reasons our main TV sadly relies on a booster box, so it is not quite as straightforward as binning Sky though, One option I considered was to try a MESH internet setup and just watch everything through the internet, but our house is like a Faraday cage and we struggle with a reliable signal pretty much everywhere, along with a crappy unreliable service to our house too. Definitely one of the downsides of living in proper country

I wonder if that's a setting, mine aren't?
