Did anybody else watch this, I really enjoyed it but really puzzled why they never mentioned the Dambuster's raid at all.

I tend to avoid such programmes presented by celebs who don't really understand the topic they are presenting. John Sergeant is another I avoid.

I wasn't really watching but it was on as background noise; it did mention the dambusters raid. As with most C5 docs hyperbolic and superficial.

I quite enjoyed it and although the dambuster raid was briefly mentioned, I was glad it wasn't the focus like many of the other programmes.

I agree. The Dambusters Raid, whilst famous, was atypical of 99% of missions flown by Bomber Command and Lancasters during the war.

It was actually decent for C5. Not the usual hyperbole and it was only voiced by David Jason.

They covered the evolution from the Manchester pretty well and they also covered the concept of "precision bombing" i.e. bks. They also covered Harris' obsession with are bombing. It also put the bombing of Germany into context, that it didn't break the population and it didn't impact on production as much as they hoped.

There was reasonable explanation of the bomber streams (Gee and OBOE) and pathfinders although some of the more technical stuff such as H2 radar was omitted.

It was on channel 4, not 5.

In recent years there have been a multitude of programes about the Dambusters, so it was nice to have a Lancaster programme which docussed other aspects of its usage. I only caught the tail end of the programme, so missed the bit about the Manchester.

Was any mention made of the long bomb bay being the result of torpedo carrying in the Manchester spec, and did the high crew losses from the small and awkward escale hatch, in comparison to the Halifax anyway get highlighted?

There was an aviation series on with him a while back.

Came across as an entitled cock. Such a shame.
