Old TV shows that never get repeated
Discussion
Anyone know why some old TV series/shows, dramas and comedies never or rarely ever get repeated on any channel?.
Looking at a few I've stumbled upon online are:
Stanley and the Woman (starring John Thaw)
A Bit of a Do (starring David Jason)
The Bretts (with Peter Sallis)
A Sharp Intake of Breath (starring David Jason)
There's probably dozens of more examples starring some well known personalities, but that's a few I can think of. I can't remember the las time any of those were ever shown on TV in the UK, at least the freeview channels. Even some of the old gameshows never get shown on channels like Challenge, which is supposed to be a classic gameshow themed channel, yet lately all they show are repeats of crap like the Chase and Pointless from last year.

The Goodies.
I wondered for years and years why The Goodies, which was huge back in the day and I loved, was never repeated. Then, maybe 2 or 3 years ago, one of the channels did run a few, I think as part of some 'retro' season. All I can say is that I no longer wonder why it's never repeated. They were dreadfull!.
A lot of the reasons will be contractual, some because they aren’t good enough to warrant repeating!
Contractually whatever was in the contract will still be valid - it could be that actors / writers won’t allow repeats without their consent, it could be that repeat fees are too much / need renegotiation and often because the necessary paperwork has been mislaid, meaning that actors, writers, composers etc could rightfully claim monies owed - could be big unexpected bills.

ITV are unfazed that there's hardly an ethnic character in Bless This House,
George and Mildred, On The Buses and are happy to re-run them till the tapes wear out.
This not reflected at the BBC, where obviously offensive stuff like Till Death....... and .......Hot Mum
will never get repeated but even inoffensive shows like Dear John, Rosie, My Wife Next Door,
I Didn't Know You Cared, Sorry, won't get shown because sadly they don't reflect the cultural
diversity of the times they were made.
The BBC is so far up its own Leftie poohole and is terrified by any inference of racial inequality,
even in 40 year old programmes.

Have you actually watched Rising Damp? Half the programme is about Rigby's casual racismGeorge and Mildred, On The Buses and are happy to re-run them till the tapes wear out.

ETA: always fun when the quoted post is edited to remove the offending part :-)

You're kidding.
They still show "On The Buses", a programme where two lecherious, old, ugly blokes try to sh*g every young clippie, usually in a very short skirt and where the brother-in-law was tricked into marrying the wife he hates and demeans in every joke.
Mind you, I thought it was s*** back then too.
So it's probably more to do with licensing and networking and how cheap it is.
Must admit I do watch the odd On the Buses episode if I catch one on. They really are so bad, they're good, with Arthur's behaviour to his wife Olive being hilarious. "You great lump!"

I was surprised to see reruns of "The Kenny Everett Show" and "The Benny Hill Show" on That's TV (Freeview ch8)
I loved the Kenny Everett Show. There again, watch the early Clarkson Top Gear programmes, well, not even that early and there are hundreds of jokes about "gay cars", anti-cyclist stuff and some very dubious stereotyping.
