If anyone is ignorant of this genre of dramas, (crime thriller from police perspective) I suggest start watching! fking ace. ‘The Bridge’ is (the best!) one, has 4 series and is absolutely brilliant, (+ obvs I’m now in love with Saga Noren lead character). Now watching ‘The Killing’ which is great. Also recently watched ‘The Hunt for a Killer’ based on a true story. I didn’t enjoy as much but still worth watching.

Also couple of French ones I suppose like Spiral? And another called Spin that I haven’t seen.

They tend to be on bbc iplayer

I watched The Killing on NF but the location was changed to Seattle and it was of course in English’s. Really enjoyed it. Also enjoyed the Unforgotten series on ITV , Happy Valley Hinterland and one or two others.

I struggle watching series which have are dubbed or have subtitles but I have heard good things about the series you named. One day maybe….

I've watched all 8 series of Spiral and thoroughly enjoyed them, got very into the characters.
Wife watched all the Bridge. Think there's been a couple of remakes in English

Bridge has to be in my all time top 3 TV series, it was awesome. it does take a few episodes to get used to Saga though hehe

If you liked Spiral, "Braquo" is sort of similar but with a bit more action, well worth a watch

BBC 4 normally show a European drama box set on a Saturday night.

Theres been some great ones over the years, be prepared to do the sub titles and you will be rewarded with the finest drama that our European friends produce.

Watched a lot of them over the past few years. Started off with The Bridge.

Currently watching Dead Wood on Netflix. It's ok, not the best. One of the main protagonist drives a lovely old (90's) 8 Series which I do find quite distracting when I should be reading subtitles biggrin

It's a great genre.

Yes I enjoyed The Bridge so much that I watched the whole series again.

Still in suspense because I forgot how thick the plot gets that I couldn't remember half of it rotate

Agreed. The Bridge was absolutely brilliant. It made a refreshing change from UK based dramas. Saga is great. Rather kooky (is it ADHD or autism?). Her direct questioning is interesting, funny, innocent and vulnerable. Loved the series. A great binge watch.

I love all the Scandi stuff, particularly The Killing, The Bridge and Borgen but if you want to expand into other Euro dramas have a look at the Italian series Inspector Montalbano and The Young Montalbano, the pace is often very slow but they are rather wonderful.

"Wisting" is a Norwegian drama series that's worth a look too. It was on BBC4 a year or two ago.

Carrie-Anne Moss is in it as an FBI agent, flown in to work with Detective Wisting after similarities are found with his case to a US serial killer.

Not to forget "Miserabel" - with Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse:

I watched the Norwegian Welcome to Utmark a couple of months ago, it was pretty good - review here

I don't think it is availavle on conventional outlets in the UK unfortunately, but if you can get hold of it it's definitely worth a watch

I recommend Follow the Money , a Danish drama if you can find it on any platform. Its really excellent.
Also, The Investigation, also Danish, true story, that was on BBC last year is well worth watching.

Not a series but the three Girl with a Dragon Tattoo films are worth watching and similar in nature (with more violence and sex).

Binge watching at the moment, 3 series down, 1 to go. (Wife watched a year or more ago).
Find the plots a bit contrived but it's watchable although preferred Spiral.
Has Saga based her character on Star Treks Spock?

She had spent months with people who have aspergers before the filming of the first series. She wanted to give the respect it deserved towards people with aspergers and give the character a truer reflection of life with this condition.
