I couldn’t find a thread about this cop drama about FBI investigating corruption in the Baltimore PD starring John Bernthall. Good start with all episodes available on Sky Atlantic. There’s at least 4 actors in it who were in the excellent The Wire that was also based on Baltimore and there is a similarity between the two in certain aspects.

Just finished watching it and it’s well worth a look. Baltimore seems to be a complete dump rife with corruption top to bottom

Finished it last night, was worth the watch but not a patch on the Wire.

I'm half way though, but that was my toughts too.

It's the same city, the same-ish writer, even has a lot of the same actors, but it's NOT 'more Wire'. It's based on a True story, but one that's written for a more mainstream audience, The Wire was fiction, but it was based on a lifetimes worth of real Baltimore Cops and Criminals.

It's a lot more limited in scope, It's more accessable, the Cops talk more like Hollywood cops, with the Wire they spoke how they did in real life, it was up to the audience to learn the lingo.

I wanted more of the old thing, but I've had to accept enjoying it as a new thing.

Of course. It would hardly be a sound idea for a semi-factual new cop series to base itself on one that predates it by 20 years and is fictional. Regarding The Wire - I watched it first time round before any public hype gave the show a life of its own (similar to Breaking Bad), and yes there were some excellent episodes, particularly those featuring Omar (RIP Michael Williams), but by and large it was well made but slow...some episodes were glacial. It's really not the gold standard for cop shows... I'd give that to either The Shield, Bosch or NYPD Blue.

I thought WOTC was a great series. Is it as as good as The Wire? Not quite but its different and more closer to The Corner.

It's easy to make comparisons such cops, detail investigation, wiretaps; but its more about a real life police corruption, an institution rotten to the core and the righteous anger - angrier than The Wire.

It lacks enigmatic characters that you grow to like, admire, respect; regardless of their moral compass.

It was great recognizing The Wire actors in different roles, especially the kids. I instantly recognized Donut but found out Dukie played one of the cops - this made me so happy!

There's a documentary by Sonja Sohn (AKA Kima in The Wire) made a documentary about Sean Suiter's death called The Slow Hustle.
