I know that the films have been overshadowed by the slapping incident…but does anyone have any comments on the awards themselves?
I haven’t seen CODA or King Richard so hard to judge those. The cynic in me does wonder as those films (and Power of the Dog) tick all the right boxes for awards these days but they might be great movies that just happen to be award worthy too.

...which was a remake of a French movie that most critics have said didn't need remaking, plus its main distribution channel was AppleTV. Power of the Dog was a Netflix release. The Oscars are a relic of an industry that has moved on, and has resorted to extreme virtue-signalling to try and remain newsworthy.
The death of cinema has been prematurely pronounced before, but with 65"+ screens now available for £400 or less and on-demand streaming becoming the norm, plus the pandemic, it truly is on life support now.
On Saturday night at the Governor's awards before the main event on Sunday, Samuel L Jackson won an honourary Oscar for lifetime achievement. The awards weren't televised, he was presented the award by Denzel Washington, it's his first Oscar. https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/...
