Anyone know anything about this ? I had one of my vids copied and posted in a compilation by another channel. I asked Youtube to remove it and they did but i've now had an email saying the guys who stole my vid have created a copyright counter notification.

Says I have 10 days to prove I've filed a court order against the counter notifier !

Obviously i'm not going to mess about doing that does this mean that anyone can just copy my content and as long as they create a counter claim are free to use ?

Well i'll answer my own question....

Yes it looks like anyone who submits a counter claim will be allowed to carry on using your content unless you are prepared to take legal action....

I presume in order to take legal action, you need the infringers Name & Address. I'm sure Youtube won't give you that, therefore you can't start legal action... Could you raise a case directly against youtube? wink

It's probably not worth your effort to even try and protect your content, why don't you copy the infringers content and put it on your channel smile

Yup I have the name and address but not in this country. You are right it’s not worth the effort and I suppose I could steal his content but … It’s all stolen from others lol !

Unfortunately, it's relatively easy for people to steal a bunch of content, upload to their own channel and monetise it. Do that enough times and there will be a nice little trickle of income. It's only the big corporations who can afford to go after copyright infringers.

I guess, the only way to reduce it, is to ensure that you have banners/visible watermarks on your content that are too much trouble to edit out.

I've decided to end the channel which is a shame because there were a lot of niche videos that people seemed to enjoy over the past 12 years.

It looks like youtube is a toothless tiger ( or just don't really care ) when it comes to protecting your content unless you are actually prepared to sue whoever has stolen your video.

I just cant be doing with the hassle yet another example of the #### of the world getting away with whatever they want.

the real world was always thus, you can't enforce copyright without going legal

I know in the scheme of things the channel will be nothing to YouTube and I do feel for the people that enjoyed the content but i've lost all faith and trust in the platform.

I feel better in myself having given the virtual middle finger.
