The one in Japan was quite good.

Perhaps less opportunity in Italy as more well known to us in the UK.

This looks great! Tempted to get Amazon Prime now. JM is looking a lot more dapper than the last time I saw him on tv (ages ago), maybe the producers had to style him up a bit for this trip?

Yay!

Two of my favourite things in one show. This goes to the top of the viewing list.

I think it's impossible to spend time in Italy and not look more stylish. I'm normally worse presented than a sack of potatoes but look presentable in holiday snaps from Italy.

That’s a good point thumbup

I think you subconsciously feel like you have to up your game a bit on the fashion front when visiting Italy. I’m a total sucker for the place; the food, culture, cars, wine, lifestyle, women… just love it all!

Looks like he's lost a bit of weight. He had a bit of a health scare during one of the lockdowns and seems to have done something about it!

He had chest pains a few years ago doing a Top Gear Live tour show and paramedics had to be called. It wasn't a heart attack but was blamed on stress and poor lifestyle. He's talked about stepping back from television work rather than falling apart in public.

Rosacea can lead to rhinophyma, when you see men with swollen, red, lumpy noses.

Jeremy lost weight after having pneumonia but looks like he's pregnant again.

The health issues do, to some extent, show how hard these presenters work just to look like they're pratting about.

Well that was pretty toe curling . The Japan series was a joy- wonderfully interesting , bizarre and with an intelligent , and respectful host in JM. But this feels like a Grand Tour spin off - superficial , silly and FFS do we really need willy jokes ? I'd thought of May as a slightly more accessible Andrew Graham Dixon but this was a load of old tut , at least on the evidence of the first episode . I will endure the rest, but hopes aren't high .

Agreed.

I like James & Italy but all very generic.

I binged it yesterday. Great scenic shots but far too peurile and much of the content was the usual banal done to death (Avio visit excepted). Still enjoyed it though.

Watched episode 1 yesterday. Enjoyed seeing the sights as I love Italy (& Sicily), but the actual content was poor.

I’ve never understood the love for James May and the first episode showed that he doesn’t seem to be able to actually do anything for himself (apart from drive a Fiat Panda).

He can be and often has been a terrific presenter . But this series just takes the whole offering several rungs downmarket - there's any number of travel shows with presenters doing funny local things for lazy, cliched laughs but May can be a cut above

It’s definitely a disappointment.

Just feel like it’s trying to hard and the embarrass James bits just aren’t working.

Japan was excellent, this is poor in comparison.

On to eps 3 and 4 - still could be better , much better in fact , but an improvement on the utterly dire first ep. The irony is that JM is a master of the Slow TV genre , but this often feels like a supermarket sweep of Italian cliches .
