I thought BP 1 was not very good and one of the most overhyped films in a long time. A cinematic case of the Emperor’s new clothes with reviewers gushing over it because it was about a black superhero and also had lots of strong black female characters. The film I saw was full of plot holes, not that interesting, took itself far too seriously and had some really clunky dialogue.

Personally I found both the film and the reaction to it quite patronising and racist in its attitude towards Africans.

I will see what the reviews are like when it is launched but doubt we will be rushing to see it. Although that seems to be the case with a lot of Marvel output nowadays. My daughter and I used to watch them all but after some real clunkers eg Black Widow we’ve become more selective.

Agreed Skep, we all know why it received critical acclaim and it was nothing to do with how good the film was, the acting or anything else, just like Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel, sadly the actors involved are just doing their job, it is the media that are hyping these films up to be woke movement.

All are reasonable films, perfectly decent to watch, but not as fabulously amazing as the media think.

I really enjoyed BP1, I'd say it was my second favourite after Guardians of the Galaxy. I liked that it is based on some sort of traditional African culture, because that's something we so rarely get exposed to in films. Western WW2 or Eastern martial arts/Buddhism is so overdone, it's just boring now.

I'm also a bigger fan of sci-fi films than I am superhero films, and BP1 felt like as much of a sci-fi film than a superhero one.

Looks like complete horseste 12 feet deep, and appears to be "borrowing" heavily from the Drexciyan mythology.

Furthermore, the only person, ever, who should be singing "No Woman, No Cry", is one Robert Nesta Marley OM.

I always thought a lot of the design work, and especially the character design was like someone dug out a load of old National Geographics and took that as a reference.

And because the audience was basically all Americans with a very remote idea of 'Africa' they lapped it all up.

It could be good and it introduces Namor. The first one was good, but overrated because

.
Average Marvel movie, massively overhyped.

Wonder how Wesley Snipes thought about all the comments about this being the first black superhero as well.

About the same as SIgourney Weaver felt when Gal Gadot was apparently the first woman to star in an action movie or be a superhero, if you don't think Ripley is a hero you are clearly not that bright!!

Especially as, in my opinion, Blade was so much more enjoyable than BP.

According to Wiki, WS has wanted to make a Black Panther movie. Perhaps his dispute with the IRS got in the way.

I hope there's lots of diversity on display hehe

Will wait for it to appear on the dodgy box, there's only so many iterations of Marvel superhero films you can watch before it becomes samey.

She is heroic and a heroin in the alien and aliens movies but she is not a superhero. As she doesn't have superhero powers or abilities above a Normal person.

However you could say in alien resurrection she is as she does have mild acid for blood and extra alien senses , spacial awareness abilities etc
