I saw him playing Hamlet at the RSC in 1965, directed by Peter Hall. He played him as a moody, disillusioned student. It was a superb, unforgettable performance and I wish I'd had the courage to tell him how good he was when I saw him having a pint in The Dirty Duck one evening but I chickened out.
