The Warship: Tour of Duty

Enjoyed that.
Has the makings of a good series. Interesting too see how the ship works from the inside.
And Lambert. At first I thought he was a fool. Shows how wrong I was even when he walked out of his disciplinary with his cap on backwards!!!
Looking forward too the rest of the series.

Very enjoyable and good tv. Surprised about all the serving pacifists they interviewed but I gather the military is not the same one I left
Some interesting people though and you can see exactly why the tv crew homed in on the “dodge geezer come good wideboy”, the “should have been a vicar plum in his mouth officer” and the “blonde bombshell”. Looking forward to the rest of the series

Enjoyed it greatly and had a few mates still in on board. It was a very unique deployment due to Covid, which will come out as they continue on their way, I guess.
It is, however a hugely impressive ship and a very large lump of metal. And, although the £3.9B figure was mentioned and seemed large, the Americans cannot believe how cheap it was!
Whilst some of my old colleagues might disagree, I rather like the focus on the odd characters, which may encourage some from a non traditional backgrounds / views to join.
However not as good as in my day ……etc etc etc.. but still a great way to earn a living.

Just got round to watching last week's before this week's is on.. Enjoyed that.
Seeing them all playing on deck having a great time, going off in coaches to get pissed and coming back to their warship is pretty cool.
Like Ronnie, putting his hat on backwards
The chief seems a reasonable guy and seems to understand and appreciate the backgrounds they all have.

The professionalism is immense but you’d never know it with the casual and calm manner it’s displayed.
Given that this series would have been heavily edited and ultimately redacted to satisfy both the U.K. MoD and US DoD is a testament to Chris Terrill’s filming and editing. Hats off to all involved, superb.

Two things puzzling me:-
1 How can the carrier sneak off from the Russians, surely they can see it on radar as we can see them ?
2 Why do the F35's take off with a bloody great air scoop ( or whatever it is ) open ?
I'm sure it's using the engine fans (whatever it is it uses to land) to add downwards thrust as its not a long runway? 1 How can the carrier sneak off from the Russians, surely they can see it on radar as we can see them ?

I'm talking about that thing sticking up like a bloody great airbrake just behing the cockpit painted white.
Allows air into the vertical fan to behind the cockpit to help with the short take off.Scarletpimpofnel said:

I was wondering the same thing. Russian sonar/radar must be able to spot it tens if not hundreds of miles away?1 How can the carrier sneak off from the Russians, surely they can see it on radar as we can see them ?
